Learning in Maths

We enjoy learning Maths in different ways.

Speaking and Listening in English

We enjoyed sharing the stories we had written in English with the younger children in our school.

Sewing in Design & Technology

We showed great perseverance during our recent D & T unit when we had to sew a hand puppet.

Welcome to Class 2

Welcome to Class 2

Mrs Newton, Mrs Poller, Mrs Locking and Mrs Denby very much enjoy teaching Class 2 and are all very passionate about creating inspiring opportunities for the children to learn and flourish.

In the morning, we have fun learning phonics in small groups.  We follow the ‘Read, Write Inc.’ programme and practice reading sounds, words and stories.  We then practice spelling and writing sentences.  We ensure all work is presented neatly and work hard practising our handwriting.

This year we are following White Rose Maths and the children enjoy using different maths manipulatives to explore the different mathematical concepts before answering questions in their math’s books.

We love books and reading in our class and share a story and learn vocabulary daily.  The children are also encouraged to read independently and complete comprehension activities.  Year 2 children have started exploring Lexia which supports their phonics and reading.

In the afternoons, we enjoy our learning in science. We are currently learning about living things and their habitats. In Geography, we are learning about our locality and the weather in the UK.  In history we are learning what history is and comparing how different our school was in the past.

In Art, the children are learning how to draw using tone and texture and will be moving onto sewing simple stitches in textiles. In addition to these, we also enhance our learning in our RE, computing, PE and PSHE lessons during the afternoons.
